“I want to tell you something that may sound a little strange,
but I really believe deeply that our greatest human desire is to give
ourselves.
Quite often we say that we want to have a lot for ourselves then we
will give a little bit. No, I think the greatest fulfillment of our
heart is in the giving, to give ourselves. It is letting go.
The mystery is that as we let go for others our lives start bearing fruit. That is a great mystery.”
Henri Nouwen
On February 16th, 21 Presbyterians, ages 14-68 did just that. The
group left family and friends and travelled 1809 miles to Campeche,
Mexico to participate in a construction project with the Iglesia
Nacional Presbiteriana de Mexico R. R.. and Pastor Francisco We
worked in Campeche putting concrete roofs on a manse and the seminary.
While
the work was challenging and often grueling, the sore muscles were a
small price to pay for feelings of accomplishment, the fellowship with
each other and our new friends in Mexico, and the knowledge that we
were doing the Lord’s work. It was a privilege to be part of such a
group. Thanks Campeche 2010!!
